It can be overwhelming to return to school!
As we prepare for the return to school, it can be difficult to get out of that lazy summer phase.
Every year, I had five children and thought that somehow getting organized would just happen. It didn’t happen. The chaos only increased each year. As we started the Back to School season, I searched high and low to find new ways to organize this family.
This school year, you’ll need these six school organization hacks!
1. School Supplies Storage
During the school year, your children will need some school supplies. It is easier to organize school supplies in a place where kids can easily find them. I store the school supplies in clear containers so that the children can see easily what they need.
Label the drawers to help identify the contents. This is perfect for kids learning to read!
2. Make a Drop Area
The chaos has been kept at bay by designating a designated drop-off zone for school supplies. You can find a space in your house where you can keep their backpacks, coats and other items. You may have a mudroom, or an entryway. You can use wall hooks to hang coats and backpacks. Shelves can be used to store gloves, hats and shoes.
3. Keep a Family Calendar
There was always something happening in our family of seven. It was easier to keep track of everything with a family calendar. Make a family schedule and post it somewhere in your house where everyone can easily see it. This is a great way to be creative and organize. You can even color code it. I assigned numbers to my children, starting with the oldest.
4. Personalised Items
Kids needed to bring a bag to school frequently. Sometimes, they would need several bags, like a lunch bag, a pencil case, and a backpack. I liked the idea of letting children choose their own bag or personalizing it with their name.
5. Label it All!
I spent a lot time with a Sharpie writing the names of my kids on all their school supplies. It was so much easier when I realized I could create labels with their names.
Address labels allow you to easily create labels on your computer. Online, you can also order personalized stickers.
6. Meal Planning
Meal planning has always been a big part of my life. It made my life so much easier to know what we would be eating for dinner, especially with a large family. It made me feel less stressed when I didn’t meal plan for my family. You can also save money by doing this!
