Frugal Habits You Might Be Missing Out On

We all strive to live a frugal life. We all strive to live a life that is less wasteful, and more resourceful. A simpler lifestyle can often allow us to be happier with less.

Our frugal lives are all different.

Others may not want to accumulate wealth. It may be that you want to pay off your debts before saving for a present-day retirement or an early one. You and your family will decide on the frugal lifestyle that is best for you.

No matter what kind of frugal life you live, regardless of your income, goals, or spending, there are a few things most frugal individuals don’t. Here are 10 things frugal individuals don’t do, but should.

1. Avoid vending machine purchases

The prices of vending machine food are not only outrageously high, but they also lack nutritional value. We’ve all had the experience of forgetting our lunches or having to grab a snack when we didn’t have any food packed. It’s best to avoid vending machines whenever possible.

Start a meal planning and pack your lunches quickly. This will not only save you money but will also make you healthier!

2. Reduce paper waste

Paper waste is easy. It’s not difficult to do. Use scrap paper whenever possible and recycle the paper. Keep the nicer papers for when you need them. If you can, look for “used” papers for your everyday printing.

3. Cable TV is no longer necessary

These packages come with hefty costs. You can find many options that are affordable, like Amazon Instant Video and Hulu Plus. You can combine these options!

4. Warehouse stores are a great place to shop

The best bargains aren’t always found in warehouse stores. You may find that your local grocery stores offer better deals than warehouses. Check out the deals at your local grocery stores before you head to the warehouses.

Costco, for example, sometimes has healthier food options. You might be able to find products that are not available anywhere else.

5. Attention to sales

Many people find it difficult to ignore all the marketing going on, especially if they are searching for a particular deal. You can save a lot of money if you ignore the marketing.

Pay attention to the sale cycles. Use extra coupons and keep yourself focused when shopping.

6. Fresh produce is important

I’m guilty of letting produce spoil before I eat it. The produce is often pushed to the back of the fridge and forgotten. When I clean out my fridge, I only discover the expired produce that I had intended to use for dinner.

Don’t let fresh produce go unused! Implementing serious meal strategies is important. Plan your weekly meals in less than 10 minutes. You can save money by planning your meals, and you will also learn how to be frugal.

7. Eat all your leftovers

Again, I am guilty. It’s like throwing away money when you throw leftovers out.

Bring leftovers in front of your bridge so you are reminded to eat them. You may want to plan meals to use leftovers for the following day.

8. Make the most of your freezer

You will be amazed at how much you can save by using frozen meals. You can cook a frozen meal instead of eating out. Not only will you save money but you’ll also be eating healthier!

9. Spending money on Value

It doesn’t matter how frugal or thrifty you are, some things are worth investing in. You can spend money on a better-quality beauty product or a new home tool. What ever you choose, ensure that the product is worth it and get rid of your guilty conscience!

10. Avoid buying expensive gifts

It is not wrong to give second-hand items as gifts. Our kids often love the second-hand gifts we’ve given them over the years. When buying gifts, we should buy them at the lowest prices possible throughout the year. Watch out for these prices all year long!
